Independent Foodbank Research

A recent (June 2015) independent food bank survey by thinkmoney of 70 food banks across the country found that:

  • Demand for food parcels increased significantly in the past 12 months
  • Benefit sanctions and late benefits payments are the main reasons people reply on food banks
  • Almost 60% of food bank users are estimated to go without adequate levels of food on a regular basis to ensure their families are fed
  • The main way independent food banks acquire funding is through donations from the general public
  • Three quarters of independent food banks anticipate welfare cuts will definitely drive more people to their food bank
